Apr 6, 2020

Property-related organisations has called on the Health Ministry as well as the National Security Council (NSC) to include property management among the list of essential services during Malaysia’s movement control order (MCO) period.

A joint memorandum by five organisations stated that NSC had failed to include property management – which entails daily management and services to cleanliness, supply, security, waste disposal, maintenance of utilities, charge-man during breakdowns and response teams that help those trapped in lifts – as an essential service.

“These services are absolutely necessary and important for the well-being of people in stratified properties, such as flats, apartments and condominiums, especially in the time when the government calls for ‘Stay Home and Stay Safe’,” read the joint statement.

“These basic necessities must be made essentials for the continued health and hygiene of the occupants and its communities.”

The memorandum was signed by the Malaysian Institute of Property and Facilities Managers (MIPFM), National House Buyers Association (HBA), the Association of Valuers, Property Managers, Estate Agents and Property Consultants in the Private Sector Malaysia (PEPS), the Board of Valuers, Appraisers, Estate Agents and Property Managers (LPPEH) and the Property Surveying Section of Royal Institution of Surveyors Malaysia (RISM), reported The Star.

According to the memorandum, non-essential facilities like sky lounge, gymnasium, swimming pool and other common facilities may be shut down during the MCO.

Some stratified buildings with Covid-19 cases under the list of NSC include Menara City One.

Located in Jalan Munshi Abdullah, the development was placed under an enhanced MCO after it registered 18 positive Covid-19 cases.
